Description

"This Alfa Giulia 101 Spider was sold to its first owner on 15th May 1963 in Busto Arsizio, North West Milan, twenty miles from the world famous factory. Manufactured originally as a Spider Normale version this charismatic sports car was later converted to Veloce specification. The car was prepared for racing in 1983 by Corrado Cupellini in Italy and raced throughout the 1980’s competing in races that included the 1988 Coppa d’Italia, winning first place on one stage, and the 1990 Carrera Panamericana Mexico with Scuderia del Portello driven by Franco Meiners and Corrado Cupellini and the 1999 Coppa Intereuropa. The amazing competition history for this car includes races at Monza, Nurburgring, Spa, Imola, Mugello, Montlhéry and Brands Hatch.
The car This rare Alfa Romeo was subsequently imported into the UK and registered for road use in August 2006.FIA historic Technical Papers being issued in 2009. Previous owners have included UK race enthusiasts Martin Brewer of Runnymede Motor Company who competed in AMOC events, the Alfa Romeo specialist James Wheeler of Black and White garage and the current vendor since 2012. It is presented with a huge file of invoices, bills and photos detailing over £30,000 of documented work in the last 20 years, including £15,000 in the last 2 years, which includes a full engine rebuild with Columbo and Bariani camshafts, all new suspension front and rear, completely overhauled steering, rebuild of Weber carburettors, new all round brake discs and calipers, new high capacity radiator and hoses and a full flow four branch exhaust manifold and system. In what can only be described as a fastidiously maintained car. Also present are a number of original lightweight racing parts including alloy hardtop and doors with original stickers, a second fibreglass hardtop, and various trim parts. Originally, the intention was to race the car but eventually the decision was made to recommission the car in certain areas to make it more usable on the road. A new soft top and original frame were fitted, as well as other amenities for the road and now the car offers a more road focused experience but with all the go of the race car that this wonderful Alfa Romeo used to be. In 2011 the car was subject to a five-page main article in Auto Italia magazine, a copy of which comes with the vehicle.
This Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider comes with an extensive history file and is accompanied by a number of spares. The next owner of this car has a perfect crossroads, the car could either be used as a genuinely quick and fun road car, or quite easily, return it to FIA specification, get papers and race it. Either option offers a huge amount of car and fun for the money. Potential buyers should note that this superb example is offered to auction without reserve.
