Windrush Car Storage was born from founder Tim Earnshaw’s desire to house the MG-based Morgan recreation he spent five years building in his spare time around studies (and still owns). After emotionally bonding with the car, he could find no adequate solution, so set about constructing his own ‘motor-house’ that soon drew the attention of his friends and acquaintances. Earnshaw gradually began turning this hobby into a business, which he initially operated part-time around his day job in Formula 1 logistics.

In an auction packed with A-listers (of the automotive variety), auctioneer Max Girardo hammered the 1956 Mille Miglia entrant for 25.5m dollars – the resulting 28.05m dollar premium-inclusive figure unseating the record 18.5m dollars paid for the Alain Delon California Spider at Artcurial’s memorable auction in February of this year.

Small cars, big expectations...

Opened in 1994, it was long the apple of the eyes of American speciality publishing doyens and world-class car collectors Margie and Robert E. Petersen. A decade earlier, the Petersens purchased an abandoned department store building on Wilshire Blvd. at the west end of L.A.’s museum district. The property was remodelled into a proper museum with its prime themes being education, and the preservation of Los Angeles' car culture and transportation history.
