The 36-lot sale’s headline lot is the boxer-engined König 500 GP developed and ridden by Kim Newcombe, the first New Zealander to win a 500cc Grand Prix. However, we have to question the taste of using his fatal accident at Silverstone in 1973 to market the bike with phrases such as ‘traces from the accident are still visible today’. It’s expected to fetch 120,000 euros.
Unlike the majority of modern ‘café racer’ style custom motorcycles, the F4V is the first motorcycle re-clothed by one of the traditional, established coachbuilders, with full support from MV Agusta, on whose F4 production superbike the unique Zagato bike is based. Making extensive use of aluminium and carbonfibre, the F4Z sports entirely new bodywork, with some parts adapted and re-engineered, and others completely replaced by specially made components, such as the fuel tank, exhaust system and, of course, body panels.
