Description

The Triumph TR6 was produced between 1969-1976 and was the best-seller of the TR range built by Triumph when production ended in July 1976, however this record was then surpassed by the angular TR7. In total, 94,619 TR6's were built of which 86,249 were sold overseas and only 8,370 were sold in the UK. The bodywork closely resembled that of the previous model, the Triumph TR5 but the front and rear were squared off and all TR6's featured inline six-cylinder engines. For the US market the engine was fitted with carburettors, for other world markets including the UK TR6 was fitted with fuel-injection. The Lucas mechanical fuel injection system helped the UK specification TR6 produce 150bhp at the model introduction. The TR6 featured a four-speed manual transmission and an optional overdrive unit for spirited driving. TR6 also featured independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering, 15-inch wheels and tyres, pile carpet on the floors and boot, bucket seats, and a full complement of instrumentation. Braking was accomplished by disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear.

Our vendor purchased this left hand drive example in 1978. The car had covered just 200 miles, driving down from the factory to London, and was sold as a 'brand new' car to our client. The car is of course a US specification car, which is understood to have been a cancelled order, and it is likely this was one of the very last TR6's to have been registered new in the UK. Our vendor has absolutely cherished this car, he remembers its costing him the same as a year's salary at the time of purchase and it has always been his prized possession, always garaged and he believes the car is totally original throughout, apart from general maintenance. There have been a few stints of time off the road, but its always been properly maintained and the most recent bill was obtained in May 2025 for a service and fixing a coolant leak which had sprung up from lack of use. Our vendor requested that the car was Ziebart rust proofed underneath from new and given its lack of use and correct storage, it really appears to be a true survivor. Supplied to auction with a V5 registration document and history file containing various bills from over the years, along with owner's manuals. Consigned by Fraser Smith
