History: ProDrive retired from Rally with the 911SCRS is circa 1987 with Rothmans sponsorship, after that time ProDrive participated in DTM for approximately three years. In 1990 ProDrive one again was involved with rally, this time with Subaru. In 1995 the then new GC-8 series Subaru was heavily modified by ProDrive with special closed deck engine, sprint gearbox, wide body work and full WRC suspension and chassis modifications. ProDrive and Subaru won the manufactures title in 1995-1996-1997 with Richard Burns and Collin McRae. For 1998 model year Subaru developed and launched a road going version of the ProDrive WRC car called the “22B”. Here are the features:

1. The units are built in sequential vin pairs at STi which modifies a standard bare GC-8 tub by removing the standard rear quarter panels and adding steel one piece flared fenders with deep wheel well provisions for wider tires and increased offset. The standard front fenders are removed and matching flared units are installed.

2. The engine is a closed deck unit knows as the EJ22. Single turbo, water injected intercooler, four cam with forged internals. Factory gentleman’s agreement in Japan between manufactures that 276hp was the highest horsepower “allowed”. The 22B makes 20 wheel horsepower more than a new Sti run on the same dyno at the same location. This equates to 330hp at the crank on a stock 22B.

3. Sprint gearbox with short rally ratios and very short final drive on Japan delivered cars.

4. Struts and shocks developed by Bilstein with ProDrive. They are labeled “Bilstein, ProDrive, Sti”

5. No ABS brakes. Water tank for cockpit controlled water injection of intercooler in place of ABS unit.

6. Unique to 22B BBS wheels with 235 tires.

7. Cockpit adjustable center differential.

8. Interior with Recaro seats with matching blue fabric on door panels and front and rear seats. Nardi steering wheel. Unique non airbag dash with flat black vinyl covering unique to 22B.

9. White faced gauge cluster with 8,000rpm redline for the 22B.

10. Power windows, air conditioning, power folding mirrors standard on all 22B.

11. Unique 22B only adjustable rear wing. 22B front and rear bumper spoilers.

12. Aluminum hood with enlarged hood scoop for intercooler.

13. 22B enlarged lower rockers to fit with flared front and rear fenders.

14. Special 22B exhaust with “Sti” markings on tip.

15. Carbon front strut brake.

16. Enlarged brakes front and rear painted in red.

17. Black tinted glass for rear window, and rear side windows.

18. Rear wiper.
