The top-of-the-range version of the R5
A real collector

We are at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1975, on the Renault stand. The brand with the Vasarely logo presents its new sports car, the R5 Alpine, designed and produced by the French manufacturer of the same name. While the R5 Turbo was already crushing all the competition, Renault offered another alternative to its ""classic"" R5s. And what we can say about this car is that it has not much in common with its little sister. Based on a 1.4L Cléon-Fonte engine, it gets a hemispherical cylinder head and pistions, a specific timing system, a 5-speed manual gearbox from the R16 TX, front brakes from the R12 as well as an anti-roll bar and specific suspensions. On the outside, big changes are also made. The first thing you see is of course the wide-set wheels. It also gets a new one-piece bumper that improves the drag coefficient as well as the offset coefficient. These elements help reduce fuel consumption and improve handling. Handling is a must. The 93 horsepower of the 4-cylinder engine propel the car to 175 km/h. Inside, the cabin is equipped with bucket seats, a voltmeter and an oil pressure gauge and a leather steering wheel. In its atmospheric version, the R5 Alpine sold 56,000 units. It is therefore not running in the streets, nor in the gatherings.
Delivered in blue, this 1979 car, with its original Fergat rims, is in a very nice general condition. The paint is beautiful and has gold piping on the side and silver on the front. The ""A5"" flocking is also present next to the left headlight. The interior is also in excellent condition, judging by the gray upholstery which has no tears or holes. The yellow headliner does not peel off. Clearly, this car is ready to hit the road, thanks in part to its smooth running engine. We're seeing less and less of these on the roads so you have to throw yourself at Youngtimer, which no longer has to prove itself. "
