After the 1929 stock market crash, the American automotive industry was in crisis, but Packard weathered the storm and, amazingly, even turned a profit in 1930. The Packards of this era were sleek, technically advanced, and truly in a class of their own.

According to the consignor, this attractive 1929 640 Individual Custom Town Car Landaulet was purchased new by Irene Rich, a prominent silent film and radio star. From the consignor’s conversations with previous owner Jim Weston, a noted collector and former owner of the Marmon dealership in San Francisco, the Packard was custom ordered from Earle C. Anthony’s Los Angeles Packard dealership specifically on the shorter 640 chassis so it could be more easily maneuvered.

The consignor states that this Packard is the only 1929 Landaulet built on a 640 chassis known by the Packard club, and that it has had only four owners and has never been fully restored. He believes the approximately 40,500 miles are original, as is the interior, while the paint and chrome have been sympathetically restored as needed. The Packard has been displayed at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® twice and comes complete with a manual, tools, and original top for the driver’s compartment.

In the consignor’s ownership, the wheels were re-spoked and repainted and a Pilot Ray driving light and radiator stone guard were added. It's great provenance, limited ownership, and Individual Custom Town Car Landaulet body style make this Packard an appealing choice for a connoisseur of classic-era automobiles.
