Morgan has often desired adding some modernity to the designs of their cars, both in the way they look and how they drive. However, this is a difficult tightrope to cross whilst ensuring that tradition is kept and that a Morgan still continues to look and feel like a Morgan. With Supersport, Morgan has nailed the brief, Morgan’s elegant silhouette is refined just right with a hint of art deco. Whilst the driving experience is exceptional, balancing modern performance with the charm and theatre expected of Morgan and classic cars in general.

This Car

The car we have here is one of the first. In fact, this was the first Supersport introduced to the public on the 11th March 2025 via livestream on Youtube, showcased both through the initial reveal showreel, and in-person with Richard Hammond and Jonathan Wells (Morgans Head of Design). The pair proceeded to walk round this exact car with Jonathan explaining to Richard the thought process they went through when designing the car.

This car, therefore, has led a pampered life being looked after by Morgan’s press team ensuring the car was perfectly presented to the motoring press for initial drives and reviews.

The specification of this car is of course dizzying, being the car to introduce Supersport to the world meant Morgan ensured almost every option box was ticked to allow them to show off the levels of personalisation and specification achievable with their car. Highlights include:

- 19” Aerolite alloy wheels – a forged alloy wheel ensuring it is also Morgan’s lightest ever wheel

- Sennheiser sound system – a powerful sound system mixed with hidden technology, it sounds amazing and utilises your phone through Bluetooth, but is all delicately hidden away without large screens to distract you

- Dynamic handling pack – Utilises adjustable Nitron springs and damper units for more sophisticated damping and can be tweaked to be stiffer or more supple depending on usage

- Active sports exhaust – Allows the straight-six engine to be more vocal

- Hard top and soft top – Comes with both the soft-top for summer use and the carbon hard top for year-round use.

- And much more

The Model

In 2020 Morgan introduced their new CX platform, it completely transformed their cars, doing away with their ladder frame chassis and pillar suspension to introduce a thoroughly modern bonded aluminium chassis with double wishbone suspension all round and mated to the latest BMW drivetrain. The bodywork retained the traditional Morgan look and as per tradition was still hand mounted on an ash wood frame. It was an intoxicating cocktail of old and new; all the charm and character of a classic car mixed with the reliability, performance and comfort of a modern sports car.

The Morgan Supersport, launched in 2025, builds upon the work started with the CX platform, what was initially planned as a gentle facelift for the Morgan Plus Six soon spiralled to whole new platform, the CXV platform, and a whole new design language. The lines of this car were penned to convey to buyers that this is a modern Morgan, the traditional look of tweed jackets and leather driving gloves have been left in the wardrobe to make way for a sharper, more contemporary suit, but still with a nod to its heritage, and still mounted using the traditional ash wood frame. Unmistakeably Morgan, yet with clearly more modern design.

The motoring press lauded the car with praise coming from across the board, with the likes of Steve Sutcliffe, Dan Prosser and Harry Metcalfe all personally praising the usability, performance and chassis of the Supersport, whilst standing out amongst the sports car crowd thanks to its depth of character and engagement in the driving experience. It even went on to feature in EVO’s Car of the Year and outperforming some very impressive metal.

In Summary

The Morgan Supersport presents an intoxicating blend of modern and tradition. It’s a wonderful car with huge performance thanks to its powerful BMW drivetrain, it being so very lightweight and its superb chassis.

This example is special in being the very first car to meet the public gaze and is ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
