Description

The cooperation between McLaren and Mercedes-Benz not only resulted in winning the Formula One championship with Mika Häkkinen in 1998 and 1999, but at the beginning of the Millennium, a supersportscar the Mercedes SLR McLaren was introduced. In reference to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé of the 1950s, the carbon reinforced composite coach work with gullwings and those characteristic side- and bonnet-vents was additionally adorned with design details taken directly from the current Formula One cars. The 5.4 litre V8 engine delivering a stunning compressor boosted 626 horsepower was assembled at the Mercedes sister company AMG and sent to England together with a 5-speed automatic gearbox. There the futuristic supersportscar was assembled by McLaren in the English Portsmouth (coach work) as well as Woking (final assembly). With a new prize considerably north of 500’000 Swiss francs, between 2004 and 2008 only 1’412 examples (including 150 “722 GT” and 150 “722 Edition”) of the exclusive coupé were built. Our car, with chassis number 453, was delivered in Switzerland and was handed over to a client in the Vaudoise canton through Mercedes Switzerland in Schlieren on the 5th of April 2005. Apparently the SLR was taken over by a further owner in Geneva in 2009 and towards the end of 2021, within 20’500 kilometres driven, acquired by the vendor. Since then, the Coupé has been driven only very sparingly and since its last service in April 2024 has only covered around 50 kilometres. Equipped with the optional wide sports seats with a red leather covering, a complete document folder, a service booklet and only around 21’000 kilometres driven the SLR is in very good and well-maintained original condition and the last MOT was completed in April 2024.
