Description
1970 MATRA DJET VS
Chassis No. 10548
French vehicle registration certificate
- Capricorne Trophy for Best Restoration at the 2011 Epoqu’auto show
- Fully restored in 2011
- Eligible for the Tour Auto as well as numerous other events
Unveiled at the 1964 Paris Motor Show, the Matra-Bonnet Djet VS marks an important milestone in the evolution of this iconic model. It features several aesthetic and technical improvements, as well as a 1,108 cm³ Renault Gordini engine producing 90 SAE horsepower.
This version is distinguished by a redesigned body, notably featuring an enlarged rectangular front air intake and a more spacious trunk, made possible by a 40 cm extension of the rear overhang. The rear wheel arches are also wider, while the tailgate now opens in the opposite direction—from back to front. At the rear, the vertical bumpers have been replaced by a horizontal bumper.
The car shown here is a 1968 Matra Djet 5 S (VS). It underwent a restoration by its previous owner, during which the vehicle was thoroughly refurbished. In particular, the entire mechanical system was rebuilt, with specific tuning of its 1,296 cm³ Gordini four-cylinder engine.
The quality of the work was recognized in 2011 with the prestigious Capricorne Trophy, awarded at the Époqu’Auto show. This award was presented to the owner in person by René-Claude Bonnet, the car’s designer and a historic figure of the brand.
Specially prepared and equipped to compete in regularity rallies, this Djet combines finely tuned mechanics, a lightweight design, and a particularly meticulous finish. Its sporty character and rich history make it a car that is as unique as it is endearing.
This 1968 Matra Djet 5 S, winner of the Capricorne Trophy and equipped with its iconic 1,296 cm³ Gordini engine, represents a rare opportunity for enthusiasts of characterful French sports cars. Lightweight, agile, and boasting a true historic pedigree, it is an ideal candidate for participating in major automotive events such as the Tour Auto or the Coupe des Alpes.
