More than just a car, the Lotus Seven is the purest expression of Colin Chapman’s philosophy. With its minimal weight, ultra-light chassis and complete absence of anything superfluous, it remains one of the most radical sports cars ever produced for the road. The Series 2, produced from 1960 to 1968, is now regarded as the most elegant and sought-after of the Sevens built by Lotus.
Chassis #SB1841 is an authentic Seven S2. It has retained its original chassis, which was carefully restored during the 2000s, and is offered for sale in superb condition, featuring elegant long front wings and curved rear wings. Mechanically, its engine has just been completely overhauled at a cost of over €12,000 (invoices included in the file), including the replacement of the clutch, the refurbishment of the braking system and the complete overhaul of the wiring harness.
Fitted with a Lotus-Holbay cylinder head, in keeping with the practice of the time, its 1,498 cm³ Ford Cosworth engine produces nearly 140 chevaux. Its power-to-weight ratio is quite simply spectacular; with less than 550 kg to move, this Seven delivers performance and driving thrills capable of rivalling much more powerful sports cars. The driving position is ideal, the car is easy to handle, and its handling characteristics make it one of the best – if not the best – introduction to sporty driving or motor racing in the highly competitive Lotus Trophy!
Duly registered in France, it still comes with its original British V5 certificate and period log book! The current owner and the two previous French owners are well known on the classic car scene, and all took particular care to maintain it in top condition. Original dials, an aviation-style bulkhead, steering wheel, headlights and position lights – everything is remarkably well preserved, a testament to the care taken in maintaining it. The two small bucket seats currently fitted enhance its sporty character, whilst they can be replaced with a more traditional bench seat to allow easier access to the cabin.
