Description

Estimated Price: £8,000 - £10,000

  • Built by Marshalls of Cambridge, the FV18068 was the RAF version of the standard military ambulance and was used for 'the rapid recovery of airfield incident casualties'
  • It was fitted with a large front crash bar and a 240 volt input socket, this also charged the battery for constant readiness
  • This example served at RAF Catterick for 20 years before joining the St John Ambulance Service and finally becoming privately owned in 1999
  • The history folder suggests a substantial rebuild commencing in December 2005 with chassis and panel repairs
  • Most notably the engine is mentioned as being replaced even though the original had covered a mere 18,000 miles, the gearbox was rebuilt and the rear axle replaced with a later Salisbury unit
  • The vehicle offers lots of possibilities, a go anywhere Land Rover Camper, or a catering van when rough terrain is a factor, but realistically it is still correctly equipped as a military ambulance and would have an invitation every weekend in the summer at military vehicle gatherings, county shows, and even a bit of film work
