Description
"The original Land Rover series began production in Solihull in 1948 and until its decades-long production run ended in 2016, more than two million Defenders were produced, becoming a British automotive icon. Since production ceased, the revered model has been in increased demand from both collectors and those willing to use this tough, utilitarian vehicle in the way it was designed for. It was only in 1989, following the introduction of the all-new Land Rover Discovery, that the Defender received its own name. This was not only a marketing exercise; the new Defender received a raft of upgrades, along with a new turbo diesel engine, which brought useful increases in power, torque, and fuel economy when compared with the old, normally aspirated diesel it was based on. Often boasting large ‘Defender’ logos, the Land Rover went through a continuous process of development, gaining disc brakes and power-assisted steering as standard during the 1990s, together with a host of other improvements.
This stunning Land Rover was originally registered on 2nd April 1985 and has recently been restored by a very well respected and knowledgeable restorer. The vehicle has covered 304 miles since the completion of the restoration. The ‘no expense spared’ Restomod includes a John Eales 3.9 litre fuel injected engine which produces a staggering 220bhp. This is mated to an upgraded five-speed gearbox by Ashcroft engineering, the transfer box has also been rebuilt. The axles front and rear have been rebuilt also by Ashcroft engineering. The suspension is a Bilstein electronic dual mode system for fast road and off road capability, this offers superb roadholding, particularly for a vehicle not known for its cornering capabilities. To be expected, the braking system has been upgraded and includes vented slotted discs all round and a custom made stainless steel sports exhaust ensures this Defender sounds the part. In addition to all of this work, a number of Bowler upgrades have been fitted, these include 18” Bowler lightweight alloy wheels with BF Goodrich all terrain tyres, lightweight front rally bumper and steering guard. Bowler rear steps and side rails have also been fitted as has a Bowler gear shifter kit. A Mono classic leather steering wheel is fitted and this Defender has the all important power steering. The interior is bespoke with custom made leather trim, heated front seats and four inward facing seats in the rear. A heated front screen with remote central door locking and electric windows also add to the comfort of this outstanding vehicle. Finished in Lamborghini Blu Caelum with a cream interior, this Defender 90 soft top is remarkable in every aspect. Viewing is highly recommended to fully appreciate the quality of workmanship and the significant levels of upgrade on this Restomod Land Rover."
