Derived from the Fulvia saloon, the coupé was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1965. Designed by Pietro Castagnero, its lines were both more flowing and more sporting. Within a short time, Cesare Fiorio, the head of the Squadra Corse HF Lancia racing team, clamoured for his management to let him take advantage of the Fulvia coupé’s performance in motorsport. In 1966, the first Fulvia 1.2 HF for competition appeared, followed two years later by the 1.6 HF production model. The 1.6 HF arrived at the same time as Lancia was taken over by Fiat, which resulted in increased investment in competition and, as a crowning glory, victory in the World Rally Championship in 1972, as well as many other wins until 1974. Altogether, 3690 1600 HF and HF Lusso coupés were built, until production of the Lancia Fulvia HF coupé ended in January 1973.

The car in our sale was first registered on the 30th of November 1971. This is an authentic 1600 HF (meaning High Fidelity) with lighter body panels and a larger 1 584 cc engine. Clothed in the same livery as the mythical cars of the Squadra Corse, known as “Fanalone” (literally “big headlights” in Italian) because of the oversized Carello driving lights in place of the inner main beam headlights, this model is equipped with a 5-speed gearbox, light alloy wheels and a limited-slip differential.
Since he acquired the car in 2014, the current owner has carried out extensive and costly mechanical work. The Squadra livery has been left untouched so that the car retains its patina but the functional components have been entirely renovated. The high performance, pleasantly musical V4 engine, gearbox, front sub-frame, clutch, exhaust system, running gear, cooling system, fuel system – everything has been replaced or overhauled. No detail has been neglected, including a new wiring loom and two new sets of Cromodora wheels on new tyres. The invoices show an investment of over 30 000 € on this work. Just prior to the sale, the car has been given a major service, costing over 4 200 €, to give every satisfaction to the next owner.
With its lengthy list of successes in competition, the Lancia Fulvia 1600 HF left its mark on its era and remains to this day one of the flagships of the make, just like the Stratos which took over from it in motorsport. Very attractive in its historic livery, with exciting performance and having been perfectly maintained, this 1600 HF is an exceptional bargain to be snapped up avidly.

This car will be sold during an auction sale organized by AGUTTES Auction House.
It will take place in Paris, at the Espace Champerret, France, on March the 17th, 2019.
