Description

Lancia’s advanced Flavia model was launched in 1961 and built upon their enviable reputation for sporty, reliable and innovative engineering. The Flavia was the first Italian production car with front wheel drive, initially fitted with a 1,5 litre overhead-valve, horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine which was mounted ahead of the front wheels. The car also had an independent front suspension in combination with a beam axle at the rear, providing great road holding. The dual-circuit, servo assisted all-round disc brakes gave the Lancia Flavia exceptional braking performance. In 1963 engine capacity was increased to 1.8 litres taking the top speed over 100 mph and the larger engine displacement gave the car more torque at the bottom end, making the Flavia convertible a potent sports car for its generation. In 1964 the Pininfarina-styled coupe entered production with a shortened wheel base, and this was soon followed by the announcement of the highly attractive four-seater convertible version by Vignale. By this time prolific coachwork designer Giovanni Michelotti had taken over design responsibilities at Vignale and the Flavia was one of his first creations for the Italian company. In 1964 this design was cutting edge, and today the bodywork is still elegant and timeless. In total, Vignale built 1601 Lancia Flavia Convertibles which makes it quite a rare classic car.

This example was delivered new in the United States of America in 1964. It was auctioned in restored condition in 2017 and fouind a new owner in England, where it was further improved with a beautifully made leather interior, new mohair softtop and a fresh repaint to concours standard. The Flavia has its matching nrs engine and gearbox, and looks absolutely stunning in the Bianco Saratoga paint and St-James Red hide. It is a proper four-seater, very stylish and easy to drive. This Flavia is probably one of the best on the market, and ready to be enjoyed in the upcoming summer.
