Description

"Launched in 1966, the Jensen Interceptor broke away from the company's traditional method of construction that used glass reinforced plastic with the new car now incorporating an all steel bodyshell. Designed by Carrozzeria Touring, the early cars were built by Vignale before production was eventually carried out at the Jensen works in West Bromwich. 1971 saw the introduction of the Mk. III; the engine size was increased to 7212cc and was at this time, the most powerful engine Jensen had produced. The imposing presence, power and distinctive shape that included the wrap around glass rear hatch drew the rich and famous to the marque and famously, Princess Anne owned one. Production ceased in 1976 with a total of 6408 Mk. I, Mk. II and Mk. III Interceptors built between 1966 and 1976.
Registered new on 30th March 1972 this Jensen Interceptor Mk. III was acquired by the current vendor in 1987 who used the Interceptor as a daily driver until 2015. Over his 35 year tenure the Jensen has been regularly maintained and improved to make it a very reliable example. In the mid-90s the Interceptor was treated to a restoration including an extensive engine rebuild by Jensen specialists with many new old stock parts installed. At this time the inner sills and floors were also repaired where necessary. In 2002 a renowned classic restorer and V8 race engine builder was commissioned to complete further restoration work which included another comprehensive engine rebuild, new custom-made pushrods were fitted for exacting accuracy, roller rockers, dual four port headers made and full MSD electronic ignition with an alloy billet distributor were installed together with other important key parts such as competitions cams, an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburettor, and Edelbrock alloy heads. As such the 383ci race engine runs and sounds superb. A rear mounted fuel pump has also been fitted replacing the original and unreliable mechanical pump. Offered in good order throughout the Jensen has been treated to much restoration and maintenance work throughout its life. It has been used for many road trips throughout Europe including the Le Mans Classic and the vendor reports that it has been a very reliable example. Presented in lovely condition the Jensen is reported to drive very well indeed. Offered with a sizeable history file detailing the various works, many old MoT test certificates, the current UK registration document, and a recent MoT test certificate.
Interested parties should note that there are various blemishes to the body/paintwork which would benefit from further maintenance work.
