History of the Jaguar XK140 SE/MC
The XK140 was introduced as a 1955 model in late 1954. Like its predecessor, the XK140 nomenclature referenced the vehicle's top speed of 140 miles per hour. Improvements over the XK120 were evident everywhere and included improved braking, suspension and steering. Customers appreciated the increase in interior space, while sporting drivers were quite fond of the retuned 3.4 litre XK engine, which was now good for 190 horsepower. The XK140’s most coveted option was the “Special Equipment” package. Referred to as the “SE” model in England or the “MC” model in the United States, this performance group offered the standard XK140 engine block with upgraded C-type cylinder heads for better flow, improved carburation, stronger suspension, and dual exhaust. These improvements raised the power output from 190 to 210 horsepower as drivers hailed that the XK140MC was one of the finest sports cars of its era.
