Der Jaguar E-Type ist die domestizierte Form eines Rennboliden. Er stammt vom Jaguar D-Type ab, dem dreifachen Sieger der 24 Stunden von Le Mans.
Gleichsam idealtypisch enthält er alle Zutaten eines Sportwagens: für den Alltag zu laut, zu flach, zu heiss, dient er vor allem der Lust an der reinen Beschleunigung.
Das Fahrerlebnis kommt bei Sportwagen in der Form zum Ausdruck. Die Linien des E-Type entstanden nach aerodynamischen Kriterien, was sinnliche Wölbungen nicht ausschliesst. Hauteng schmiegt sich dieses Blechkleid an die Mechanik und die Insassen.
Bei seiner Präsentation am Auto Salon in Genf 1961 sorgte der
E-Type für Furore. Mit 265 PS und 210 km/h Spitze kostete er in der Schweiz unter 28'000 Franken. Ein Aston Martin DB4 bot zwar vier Sitze und etwas mehr Komfort, kostete aber über 43'000 Franken.
Dieser E-Type stammt aus der zweiten, ab 1968 gebauten Serie. Ursprünglich in die USA ausgeliefert, wurde er vor über 20 Jahren vom aktuellen Besitzer in der Schweiz gekauft. 2010 liess dieser für 11'000 Euro einen revidierten Austauschmotor einbauen. Neben jährlichen Service-Arbeiten erfolgte 2018 ein grosser Service für 2800 Euro. Darüber hinaus ersetzte der aktuelle Besitzer die ursprüngliche Vergaseranlage mit einem 3 Weber Doppelvergaser.

The E-Type embodies the ideal elements of a sports car: too loud, too low, too hot for everyday use, and mainly existing to deliver the thrill of pure acceleration. With a sports car’s driving experience typically hinted at by its shape, the lines of the E-Type reflect aerodynamic principles without excluding sensual curves. Its bodywork fits tightly over both the mechanical components and the driver to create a raw yet refined presence.
At its debut at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, the E-Type caused a sensation. With 265 hp and a top speed of 210 km/h, the model cost under CHF 28,000 in Switzerland. This was a relative bargain compared to the Aston Martin DB4, which offered four seats and more comfort, but was priced at over CHF 43,000.
This particular E-Type is from the second series, produced from 1968 onwards. Originally delivered to the USA, it was purchased over 20 years ago by its current Swiss owner. In 2010, a reconditioned replacement engine was fitted at a cost of EUR 11,000. In addition to annual servicing, a major service was carried out in 2018 for EUR 2,800. The current owner also replaced the original carburettor system with a set of triple Weber carburettors.
The beige interior remains largely original – aside from the radio – and pairs beautifully with the striking red exterior. This is a four-wheeled legend whose form truly deserves to be called iconic.
