Description

From its electrifying 1961 Geneva launch, Jaguar’s E-Type redefined sports cars in one stroke because of its race-bred design, astounding performance, and surprising affordability. Development brought improved comfort and, from 1964, a larger 4.2-litre engine and a synchromesh gearbox. Its original projectile-like styling was left undisturbed and remains universally acclaimed today as a design benchmark.

Numbered 1E12816, this roadster is a personal export delivery vehicle purchased new by A.G. Thompson of California and retained by the Thompson family over the next four-and-a-half decades. Acquired by the consignor as an excellent survivor with low indicated mileage, the E-Type benefits handsomely from an extensive rotisserie restoration, including NOS parts, proper metal-finishing, careful attention to panel fit, and a bare-metal refinish in its original-specification of Opalescent Silver Blue accented by triple-plated chrome. The interior was restored to match with new custom-tailored materials, and the top bows were fully restored before being fitted with a new custom-sewn and well-fitted convertible top. All instruments, knobs, switches, and the Blaupunkt radio were also restored. The engine, carburetors, and gearbox were even rebuilt, and the driveshaft was balanced. Finished with chrome wire wheels and documented by a JDHT certificate confirming original data, this late Series I Roadster is simply an outstanding example of a true legend.
