Description

"In 1958, Jaguar technical director, William Heynes, and designer, Malcolm Sayer, convinced their boss, Sir William Lyons, that a new production sports model was needed. Thus, the E-Type was born; one of Jaguar's longest-running and most revered models. Much of the E-Types success was owed to the racing D-Type and, indeed, it would be one of the last great sports cars developed directly from a successful competition ancestor. Just as in the D-Type, a monocoque tub formed the main body and chassis structure while a tubular space frame extended forwards to support the engine. Offered initially in 3.8 litre form, the E-Type was uprated to a 4.2 litre variant for the later cars. One of the most elegant and efficient shapes ever to grace a motor car.
This example is presented in its original colour combination of Opalescent Blue with a grey leather interior rolled off the production line in 1964 and was sold new by Newsome Jaguar Dealer, Midlands, to its first owner Mr. Law of Coventry. In 2010, the E-Type was treated to much restoration work. A bare metal respray was completed and upgrades included a 3.8 litre lightened flywheel, balanced crank, rods, a fully gas flowed head, new shock absorbers, a stainless-steel exhaust and XJS brakes. Presented in good order throughout the paintwork shows little sign of age and the engine bay is tidy. The interior also presents well and shows a light patina from occasional summer use. Offered with a UK V5C registration document, various sundry invoices and photographs detailing the bare metal respray. This example, in arguably the most desirable colour combination, is ready to be used by a new custodian.
Interested parties should note that contrary to the catalogue description, the chassis number for this vehicle is 861524 and it is a non-matching numbers example.         "
