Description

The E-Type Jaguar debuted at the 1961 Geneva Motorshow as a replacement for the hugely successful Jaguar XK150. The new E-Type was nothing short of a revelation, with its heady blend of supercar performance, breath-taking styling and low price tag, the newcomer left its rivals reeling and customers desperate to own one. Designed by William Lyons and Malcolm Sayer, the E-Type was launched in 1961 in both fixed head coupe and roadster form with design inspiration taken from the Le-Mans winning D-Type sports racer. Built around a steel monocoque chassis with a front sub-frame to cradle the engine, all-round independent suspension using coil springs and dampers to the rear with torsion bars and wishbones to the front. Brakes were Dunlop discs all round, mounted inboard to the rear alongside the differential to reduce un-sprung weight. Powered by Jaguar’s XK 3.8 litre twin-cam straight six engine, the E-Type offered breath taking performance to rival both Ferrari and Aston Martin. The 3.8 litre engine produced 265bhp and boasted a top speed of 150 mph and a 0-60 mph time of just 6.5 secs.

The 1963 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Series 1 Semi Lightweight ‘FIA’ (chassis no 860917) offered here at Autostorico is finished in Opalescent Silver Grey metallic with Black interior. Having been built to a very high standard this proven reliable E-Type is race ready. The engine benefited from a full rebuild by Scholar Engineering and included a balanced crankshaft, Carillo rods, lightened flywheel, JE pistons, baffled sump, high flow oil pump, new cam chains and guides, fully gas flowed cylinder head, Piper cams, new water pump, new distributor, new oil filter housing and hard engine mounts. The gearbox and axle have undergone a complete rebuild to race specification including an 8” clutch.
The Monocoque is in original steel as are the rear wings and front frame. The bonnet, doors, boot lid and hard top were manufactured by Rod Jay at Racing Jaguar and certified FIA approved roll cage fitted by Custom Cages.
The car sits on standard homologated 1962 suspension but with heavy duty race torsions bars with height adjustments and modified alloy front camber mounts. It has MK9 front brake discs and callipers and a Quickrack steering rack, double adjustable shocks by GAZ. new hubs drilled to accept “D” type alloy wheels and new bearings and seals throughout.
The rear suspension cradle has been shot blasted and powder coated, the whole assembly has been fitted with new seals, bearings and shims. New “V” block mountings, new upright bearings and seals, new hub adapter and spinners, new rear discs, callipers with stainless steel pistons.
A new aluminium radiator by “Pro-Alloy” and foam filled 95 litre alloy fuel tank has been fitted. As has new pumps and lines throughout and a new E-Type wiring loom from Jaguar. FIA spec stainless steel exhaust system.
