Description
Chassis No. 886052
The illustrious Jaguar E-Type Low Drag Coupé was the result of Jaguar's desire to translate the aerodynamic ingenuity of the D-Type into an even more focused E-Type for international competition. Engineered by aerodynamicist Malcom Sayer and based on the E-Type Lightweight, the Low Drag Coupé combined aluminum body panels riveted onto the E-Type's steel frame with additional weight-saving measures such as polycarbonate glass. Its signature fastback roofline, pronounced brake cooling ducts, welded rear hatch, and stripped-down interior further elevated the striking look of the Low Drag Coupé.
German Jaguar distributor and racer Peter Lindner commissioned the installation of Sayer's bodywork on his own E-Type Lightweight, which he famously campaigned alongside co-driver Peter Nöcker at the 1964 24 Hours of Le Mans to challenge the dominant Ferrari 250 GTOs. Although the Low Drag Coupé ultimately fell short of its ambitious competitive objectives, its attractive design and unique story have secured its place within Jaguar's mythology. Today, the original Lindner/Nöcker car and the other E-Type Lightweights occupy an almost mythical position among collectors.
This 1963 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.7 has been attentively rebuilt by Team CJ Works as a tribute to the renowned Lindner/Nöcker car. Based in Austin, Texas, Team CJ is well-renowned both for their concours-level restorations at the likes of Pebble Beach, and for their elegant recreations of pure unobtanium from the Ferrari 250 to the Jaguar XKSS. This car is the second example built in a planned limited series of "Low Drag Coupe" style recreations by Team CJ that feature aluminum bodywork and an array of upgrades under the hood. The Team CJ Low Drag Coupes notably boast riveted fenders, quad headlamps, sliding windows, and a moderately stripped-out interior-all of which mirror the original car's competition-focused modifications.
This car's alloy body is clad in Jaguar Dark Blue paint, while its focused interior is punctuated with Dark Tan leather upholstery adorning its bucket seats, central tunnel, foot wells, and door sills. The car is powered by a 4.7-liter "Stage Two" inline-six, which makes approximately 390 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque according to Team CJ.
Build photos on files show that the project commenced in early 2021, encompassing a bare metal restoration of the donor E-Type complete with a full engine rebuild and interior refurbishment; fully complete and ready for its one previous owner by December 2023.
Recently acquired by the consignor, this stunning recreation has since entered an eclectic and highly curated collection in Texas. It has been enjoyed seldom since, with the majority of the 626 miles shown on its delightful Smiths odometer-which was almost certainly reset during its extensive transformation-having been accumulated under the current owner's care.
With the original Lindner/ Nöcker E-Type and its derivatives firmly beyond reach of all but the most fortunate collectors, this 1963 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.7 "Low Drag" Coupe presents a compelling opportunity to experience the spirit of those legendary competition Jaguars through a meticulously executed recreation. Prepared by concours restoration veterans Team CJ Works and exceptionally well-equipped on its own, this E-Type promises an engaging and thoroughly rewarding driving experience whether on the way to a prestigious automotive gathering or on a favorite stretch of winding road.
