This hand crafted Proteus Jaguar C-Type Recreation is a stunning piece of craftsmanship. Combining smooth flowing edges and exaggerated curves the designers created a shape that utilised advanced aerodynamics to dominate on the race track whilst remaining one of the most elegant vehicles ever to grace the road.

Created as a homage to the Le Mans legend this recreation by Proteus looks utterly superb; presented in a period correct shade of Jaguar British Racing Green the simple lines of the C-Type remain undisturbed throughout, with the side exit exhaust tucked into the passenger side whilst up front the chrome grille and concealed central spotlights complete the Jaguars iconic facade.

The Proteus C-Type is designed and built to a winning formula; Malcolm Sayer’s classic 50s Le Mans winning aerodynamic design, combined with the latest road-racing technology, materials and build quality. The result is a car that would perform as well on the racing track of 50’s Goodwood, as it does on today’s roads.

Primarily designed to race at Le Mans the interior of the C-Type is a rather unique configuration; the cabin features 2 seats but only a door on the drivers side, for quick entry during the standing start, as a passenger door would have added unnecessary weight and drag to the streamlined racer.

Once situated in the low slung bucket seats the lightweight focus of the C-Type becomes clear, with anything deemed non-essential removed the space is a spartan affair consisting of aluminium, rivets and Hardura insulation, which could almost be considered luxurious. Despite the rather minimal appointment the cockpit still feels special, with every single piece of trim a bespoke adaption or recreation to match the specification of the original car, including the large 3-spoke steering wheel and speedometer which reads all the way up to a terrifying 140mph.

Provided with the car is a cockpit Tonneau cover which un-zips to gain access to the passenger seat for a nice Sunday drive, or provide some further aerodynamic assistance whilst hurtling down the Mulsanne Straight.

The 3.8-litre Jaguar engine was released in 1958, initially for the last of the XK150s and the Mark IX saloon. The distance between the cylinder bores was sufficiently small that it was decided to fit dry liners to the bores.

The car drives as if it is ready to start Le Mans: tight, loud and raw. A normal 3.8 has valve gear and carburettors to differentiate itself from the measly 3.4. However this C-Type has the rare Triple SU Carburettors creating 245 hp and with the Moss 4 Speed Gearbox that it's mated to, it adds to the raw racing experience.

Neatly nestled beneath the C-Type's flowing arches the silver painted 16" wheels, with period correct aluminium spokes, and chrome knock-on hub caps complete the period style of this stunning car and present in fantastic condition, free from any signs or chips or fading. Matching Dunlop Racing S tyres adorn each corner, with good tread remaining all around.

The disc brakes make for excellent stopping power for any Sunday Morning blast along the B Roads.

Built as a labour of love to commemorate Jaguar's iconic race car, this wonderful project started as a conversation between the original owner and Proteus to create a recreation C-Type that could be used and enjoyed without worrying about the 7 figure price-tag. After searching for some time for the right people to take on the challenging build the owner was put in touch with Proteus, who had been established since 1980 and built a reputation for the creation of hand crafted replicas.

This car being an early replica commissioned in 1983 and borrowing certain components from its donor, the 1960's Jaguar MK2 and matched with Proteus' own hand crafted body and mechanical components to create this superb C-type recreation.

More recently the car had upwards of £4000 spent on it to keep it in excellent running order. Present with the car is a detailed selection of invoices, V5 and 2 keys.
