On offer here is probably one of, if not the, fastest FIA Cortina available today, indeed, this is the pole position car from the 2023 Goodwood Members Meeting Jim Clark Trophy race.
Unlike many, this is a genuine Lotus Cortina - with correct and original VIN plate (BA74FT59629) and its V5C displays just two former keepers. It has achieved countless pole positions, class wins, outright wins and is the ex-HSCC Touring Car Championship winner, having set the pace at some of the most prestigious events on the racing calendar including Goodwood. Its impressive results can be seen below.
Built by Richard Moore of Moore Racing, the car is known for its high build quality and impressive reliability, having been subject to thousands of hours of development resulting in one of the fastest and most reliable leaf-spring cars on track. It's classically presented in Ermine White but with the traditional Sherwood Green side-stripe and tail panel now in purple, as a nod to the team's sponsor, Royal Purple Synthetic Oil and the attention to detail is remarkable for a race car. It's fitted with a newly rebuilt Neil Brown engine, diff, gearbox and more and is 'on the button' and ready to go for the rest of 2025. The FIA papers are valid until 31st December 2029 and we understand that the car is eligible for all major race series including the Masters, MRL, HSCC, HDRC, CTCRC, NKHGT, Peter Auto & CSCC etc.
Sadly, this is a reluctant sale due to our vendor's health concerns and consequently his subsequent retirement from racing. Mk1 Lotus Cortinas make excellent competition cars and there are usually one or two on the market, however the results show that this is the 'real deal' with timesheets, trophies and reliability to prove it. Iconic Auctioneers are excited to present the car to market and we feel it represents extraordinary value for money when you consider that it would cost over double this estimate to replicate.
We highly recommend interested parties view this remarkable Lotus for themselves at Silverstone, admire the build quality and attention to detail and appreciate why it has enjoyed such exceptional success.
