Ferrari has long followed the tradition of introducing open-top variants only after its coupe flagships have firmly set new standards in performance, design, and exclusivity. Such was the case with the LaFerrari Aperta, the open evolution of Maranello’s seminal hypercar. Launched at the 2013 Geneva Salon, the LaFerrari—literally “The Ferrari”—was a bold response to the new generation of hybrid hypercars. At its core was a 6.3-liter V-12 engine, derived from the developmental FXX and paired with a Formula One-inspired KERS hybrid system. Together, the powerplants produced a staggering 949 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque, allowing 0 to 60 mph in just 2.4 seconds and a 9.7-second quarter mile—figures that eclipsed even the Bugatti Veyron.
The LaFerrari’s monocoque chassis, constructed in Ferrari’s Formula One facility, positioned the driver exceptionally low by integrating bespoke seat padding directly into the carbon tub. Adjustable pedals and a tailored driving position reflected Formula One methodology. Designer Flavio Manzoni penned the sleek, wind-cheating form, while active aerodynamics and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes ensured razor-sharp handling at the car’s extreme performance envelope.
Production of the LaFerrari coupe concluded in 2016 at just 499 examples, all spoken for by Ferrari’s most exclusive clientele. But the marque had saved something special for its 70th anniversary. Enter the Aperta, a more focused, open-top iteration produced in an even more limited run of 210 examples. The Aperta featured exclusive engineering to maintain rigidity and performance without a fixed roof, while other enhancements included re-mapped electronics for a total of 963 horsepower, a revised aero package with a longer front air-dam, angled radiators for reduced cockpit heat, and repositioned butterfly doors. Buyers were offered either a canvas soft-top or optional carbon fiber hardtop, with all cars sold exclusively to existing LaFerrari owners before public debut at the 2016 Paris Salon.
The breathtaking LaFerrari Aperta on offer, chassis 232856, is believed to be one of the final examples constructed. According to a digital copy of the Ferrari window sticker on file, the car was optioned with a carbon fiber hardtop and the carbon fiber exterior package, totaling over $113,000 in extra equipment. In addition to the standard equipment, which includes electromagnetic dampers, speed-sensitive steering, F1 Trac traction control, and the carbon fiber and Alcantara steering wheel with its signature manettino drive-mode control, the optional gear brought the total MSRP to nearly $2.3 million.
The LaFerrari is attractively finished in the stunning color scheme of Nero Daytona metallic paint with Rosso racing stripes over a matching Nero leather interior with Rosso accents and embossed Prancing Horse stitching on the headrests. Originally distributed through Ferrari Westlake to a client of Ferrari of Beverly Hills, California, the Aperta has since enjoyed a life of minimal driving use and fastidious upkeep. Invoices on file demonstrate regular service attention by authorized Ferrari dealerships.
In addition to its formidable powertrain and chassis specifications, this Aperta is desirably equipped with a front-end ride-height adjustment system. Showing fewer than 2,300 miles at cataloguing, it is accompanied by the carbon fiber hardtop, canvas soft-top, battery charger, center lock socket, and owner’s manuals.
Equally suited to concours lawns, Ferrari Club of America gatherings, and exclusive marque events, to say nothing of exhilarating drives, this LaFerrari Aperta is a compelling candidate for both static display and spirited use. Whether admired for its rarity and design or exercised on the open road or track, the Aperta’s astonishing Formula One-derived performance promises a visceral driving experience that few machines can match, making it a crowning addition to any world-class collection. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/auctions/mo25/.
