The 812 Superfast is the last fully naturally aspirated V12 Ferrari in a front-engined configuration before the 12 Cilindri replaced it. The 6.5 litre V12 produces 795 ps and revs through to 8,900 rpm. On the road it feels nothing short of rabid in a straight line, with the kind of throttle response that only comes from a big naturally aspirated engine revving hard. On track the car behaves lighter and more agile than 1,790 kg would suggest. The Virtual Short Wheelbase system steers the rear wheels and gives the 812 the agility of a smaller car without sacrificing stability. The seven-speed DCT shifts 30 per cent faster on the way up and 40 per cent faster on the way down compared to its predecessor.

Fun fact: the body has three active flaps under the rear bumper that can move through an arc of up to 14 degrees. They generate the same downforce as the F12 TDF but with 40 per cent less drag.

De 812 Superfast is de laatste volledig atmosferische V12 Ferrari in een front-engined configuratie voor de 12 Cilindri hem verving. De 6,5 liter V12 levert 795 pk en gaat tot 8.900 toeren. Op de openbare weg voelt hij ronduit maniakaal aan in een rechte lijn, met het soort gasrespons dat alleen een grote atmosferische motor op hoge toeren geeft. Op het circuit gedraagt de auto zich lichter en handelbaarder dan je van 1.790 kg verwacht. Het Virtual Short Wheelbase systeem stuurt de achterwielen mee en geeft de 812 de wendbaarheid van een kleinere auto zonder de stabiliteit op te offeren. De zeventraps DCT schakelt 30 procent sneller omhoog en 40 procent sneller omlaag dan zijn voorganger.

Leuk detail: de carrosserie heeft drie actieve kleppen onder de achterbumper die tot 14 graden kunnen bewegen. Ze genereren evenveel neerwaartse druk als de F12 TDF maar met 40 procent minder luchtweerstand.

Le système Virtual Short Wheelbase dirige les roues arrière et confère à la 812 l'agilité d'une voiture plus petite sans sacrifier la stabilité. La DCT à sept rapports passe les vitesses 30 pour cent plus vite à la montée et 40 pour cent plus vite à la descente par rapport à son prédécesseur.

Anecdote: la carrosserie dispose de trois volets actifs sous le pare-chocs arrière pouvant se déplacer sur un arc de 14 degrés. Ils génèrent le même appui que la F12 TDF mais avec 40 pour cent de résistance aérodynamique en moins.
