The 430 Scuderia

Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2007, the 430 Scuderia represented a remarkable moment in Ferrari’s road-car history. Rather than simply creating a lighter and more powerful F430, Maranello set out to transfer as much of its contemporary Formula One thinking as possible to a road car.

At its heart remained Ferrari’s naturally aspirated 4.3-litre V8, now producing 510 hp at 8,500 rpm. Weight was reduced significantly, while the chassis, transmission and electronic systems were developed to work more closely together. The six-speed single-clutch automated manual gearbox reduced shift times to a claimed 60 milliseconds, while F1-Trac traction control and the E-Diff electronic differential brought technology developed through Ferrari’s competition programme to the road.

Michael Schumacher played an important role in that development.

Following his initial retirement from Formula One at the end of 2006, the seven-time World Champion became closely involved in Ferrari’s road-car development programme. Ferrari credited Schumacher with making a significant contribution to transferring racing experience to the 430 Scuderia, which he tested extensively during its development, including at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. He subsequently unveiled the finished car at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2007.

In period, all of this represented Ferrari looking resolutely towards the future. Today, it is precisely this combination of new technology and traditional ingredients that makes the Scuderia so compelling: a high-revving naturally aspirated V8, relatively low weight, minimal insulation and an automated gearbox whose physical, single-clutch operation makes every full-throttle shift an event.

This Scuderia

The example offered here was ordered new in Germany in September 2007 and delivered by Eberlein Automobile GmbH one year later, on 26 September 2008. It was first registered on 29 September 2008.

Its original owner was a German entrepreneur with a longstanding personal connection to Michael Schumacher and his racing career – an interesting connection given Schumacher’s involvement in the development of the model he had chosen.

More important, however, is the unusually personal specification he selected.

Finished in Bianco Avus, the car was ordered with a specially painted racing stripe and an extensive selection of carbon-fibre elements. The competition-oriented specification included large racing seats, four-point harnesses, a roll bar and fire extinguisher, yet these were combined with an unusually extensive leather-trimmed interior as well as navigation, Bluetooth and iPod preparation.

The result is markedly different from the more familiar, sparsely specified Scuderias.

Perhaps its most distinctive detail is the red leather steering wheel with carbon-fibre and LED shift lights.

According to the supplying dealer, the original owner had actually intended to order red stitching. Somewhere in the ordering process, however, this apparently became a steering wheel specified in red – an individual option that is recorded in the car’s original sales documentation.

Whether by intention or happy accident, it has become one of the defining features of this particular car.

4,500 kilometres from new

The Scuderia’s exceptional mileage is supported by an extensive documentary history stretching back to its original delivery.

Its first owner retained the car until May 2012. When it was sold through Ferrari dealer Autohaus A. Gohm GmbH, it had covered just 491 kilometres.

Its second long-term custodian kept the Ferrari until 2019, by which point the mileage had risen to approximately 3,600 kilometres. Two further German owners followed, with the car recording 4,026 kilometres in late 2021.

Today, eighteen years after its delivery, it has covered just 4,500 kilometres.

Importantly for a car with such unusually low mileage, the progression is supported by period sales and service documentation rather than relying solely on the odometer reading.

Service history

Maintenance was initially entrusted to Ferrari dealer Autohaus A. Gohm GmbH, with the later services carried out by Maranello Motors GmbH.

The documented history includes:

25 May 2012 – 510 km
Annual service · Autohaus A. Gohm GmbH

24 May 2017 – 2,960 km
Inspection including brake-fluid service · Autohaus A. Gohm GmbH

12 June 2019 – 3,600 km
Annual service · Maranello Motors GmbH

29 April 2022 – 4,026 km
Inspection including fluid service · Maranello Motors GmbH

17 April 2025 – 4,108 km
Inspection including fluid service · Maranello Motors GmbH

6 July 2026 – 4,218 km
Inspection including engine-oil service · Maranello Motors GmbH

The first service is documented by a Ferrari system record, the second by a copy of the contemporary invoice, while the four most recent services are accompanied by their original invoices.

The original service booklet was replaced during the car’s life. Its history, however, does not depend on the replacement booklet alone: the car is accompanied by a copy of its original sales invoice and an extensive documentary file supporting both its maintenance and exceptionally low mileage.

A particularly individual Scuderia

The significance of the 430 Scuderia has changed considerably since its introduction.

What was conceived as a showcase for Ferrari’s latest technology now represents something that cannot readily be recreated: a naturally aspirated Ferrari V8 revving to 8,500 rpm, combined with low weight, hydraulic steering and a single-clutch automated manual transmission that still requires – and rewards – driver involvement.

At just 4,500 kilometres, this example combines those qualities with an unusually individual factory specification, German provenance and a well-documented history from new.

Its Bianco Avus paintwork, specially finished racing stripe, extensive carbon specification, leather-trimmed interior and unmistakable red steering wheel make it particularly distinctive even among other 430 Scuderias.

Accompanying the car are its original Ferrari tool kit, owner’s wallet, two keys and original Ferrari torch, together with the original sales invoice, 430 Scuderia VIP Preview Booklet and extensive service documentation. Also included are the original Ferrari car cover, a Goodwool car cover, one new set of Ferrari harness pads and a new 430 Scuderia key ring.

For the collector looking for a 430 Scuderia not simply on the basis of mileage, but for its specification, provenance and individuality, this is an unusually complete example.
