At the 1975 Paris Auto Show, Ferrari introduced a successor to the midengine Dino series: the 308 GTB, powered by a three-liter V-8. The first 712 examples of the new model were bodied by Scaglietti in lightweight fiberglass (vetroresina), and European versions featured a dry sump lubrication system derived from competition applications.

This beautifully restored mid-production Vetroresina is one of approximately 400 LHD examples equipped with the dry sump engine, and it is notable for wearing the color scheme of the Paris show car, Azzurro Metallizzato (Azure Metallic) paint over a tan and black leather interior with complementary blue carpeting. Benefiting from 10 years of minimal use under European ownership, the Ferrari was imported to the US in 1985 by Aldo Stanisavljevic of Lake Angelus, Michigan, as confirmed by original import papers, and he is reported by the consignor to have retained possession until at least 2001.

By the mid-2000s, the rare Vetroresina passed to Claes Flodin of Kaysville, Utah, and he sold the car later to Michael Call’s Cavallino Equipment Group in Salt Lake City. Mr. Call commenced a comprehensive photo-documented refurbishment in 2014 that continued when the car was acquired by the consignor in January 2015. Completed in October 2017, the fastidious restoration ultimately included a rebuild of the engine, transaxle, suspension, brakes, and all ancillary mechanical systems. The gauges, switchgear, and electrical systems were reconditioned, while the interior was sublet to the famed Luppi Tappezzeria in Italy for correct leather upholstery and Wilton wool carpets. According to the consignor’s calculations, the total investment of the three-year project exceeded $200,000, which is supported by an itemized expense log.

Displaying approximately 46,000 km (less than 29,000 miles), this exquisite dry sump Vetroresina is quite likely one of the most finely restored examples in existence. Having accrued about 250 miles since the refurbishment, the car is primed for an owner who wants to experience it to the fullest on the show field or the open road. This blue berlinetta can be presented at Ferrari Club of America events and sports car gatherings, where its no-expense-spared restoration and unusual specifications are very likely to distinguish it.

With seemingly no detail left unattended, chassis 19377 must be seen to be fully appreciated. It is truly an ideal candidate for the serious Ferrari enthusiast seeking the rarest and most desirable iteration of the celebrated 308 GTB.
