Now available is this superb Ferrari 250GT Berlinetta Lusso finished in its original specification of Grigio Argento with Nero leather interior.

The launch of the Lusso had a simple objective, a marketing strategy in which Ferrari could captivate new customers with its illustrious road cars as the 250 model range neared the end of its production. What made these road cars so attractive was the character taken from Ferrari’s competition models that they were partially derived from. The result was nothing other than pure elegance, thus called the ‘’Lusso’’ or in english, Luxury.

The Lusso is what many would describe as the ultimate combination of perfection. Most notable is the chassis, which shares many similarities to that of the 250 SWB, and the suspension which also has some resemblance to that of the mighty 250 GTO. The impressive engine block is derived from the 250 GTE alongside internals based on the 250 SWB. The Lusso was the first production 3 litre Ferrari which was then succeeded by the 275 GTB and GTS.

Beautifully crafted bodywork was of course carried out by Carrozzeria Scaglietti and designed by Pininfarina. The cars overall design shares multiple similarities to both its predecessor (250 GTO) and successor (275 GTB) such as the iconic small integrated tail spoiler and general architecture. The Lusso has received a unique yet wonderful front bumper design which is accompanied by double headlights. Throughout the entire car its proportions make it easily distinguishable from any angle, the Lusso is arguably one of the most sensational looking cars to ever leave Maranello.

Originally ordered for the USA, Chassis #5231 is 1 of 350 ever produced and was specified in Grigio Argento over Nero interior and was the 184th example to leave the factory. The cars comprehensive history holds early documentation from a Candy Poole’s Sports Car Shop of Glastonbury, CT showing the owner as a Mr. Charles Anthony. Mr Anthony owned the car from around 1970 to 1976 before placing an advertisement in Road & Track Magazine where he sold the car to a man named Mr. Bill Harrison. The car was thoroughly and frequently enjoyed by Mr Harrison who commuted to New York City and had the car regularly maintained by his trusted garage, The Stable Limited of Gladstone, NJ. In 1978, the Lusso was then sold on behalf of Mr. Harrison by The Stable Limited to a Mr. Paul G. Rochmis of Annandale, VA for $6,750. Mr. Rochmis would enjoy the Lusso until it was then sold again to its next owner in 1985 via the Stable Limited.

The 250 Lusso’s owner at the time whom owned the car for 30 years (a father-son ownership within the motor trade), and during this long term ownership it was very much enjoyed and cherished. The keeper made the decision to have a colour change to Rosso Corsa in 1986 and upon having the car stripped down it was carefully checked over. The report stated that it had never rusted nor never been severely hit.

In 2015 the car was then sold to its current owner whom had the car shipped over from the States and commissioned Marque specialist Bob Houghton, a reputable name among Ferrari to carry out a comprehensive nut and bolt restoration. Accompanied with the Lusso’s large history file is a detailed section dedicated to the cars restoration, with countless invoices, email correspondence screenshots with progress updates, photographs and much more. Available to purchase today at Furlonger, this example has been incredibly well looked after not only after its restoration but throughout its entire lifetime.
