Description
Model History
The Dallara SP1 quickly proved its mettle on the track, achieving notable results in prestigious endurance races. Its debut season saw strong performances, including podium finishes and competitive showings at events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the American Le Mans Series. The SP1's combination of cutting-edge engineering, powerful performance, and driver-focused design made it a formidable contender in the LMP900 class.
At the heart of the SP1 was the potent Judd GV5 5.0-liter V10 engine, delivering without any air-restrictors up to 800bhp. This high-revving powerplant was coupled with a six-speed sequential gearbox, enabling rapid gear changes essential for competitive racing. The engine's advanced design included features like titanium internals, a dry-sump lubrication system, and a bespoke exhaust setup to maximize performance and reliability.
Despite facing fierce competition from established manufacturers, the Dallara SP1 left a lasting impression with its innovative approach and competitive spirit. Its legacy continued as many of the technologies and design principles developed for the SP1 influenced future prototypes and racing cars.
Chassis #005
Originally acquired by Doran Racing as a backup, this Dallara SP1 chassis quickly became a star performer when it was thrust into action midway through the 2002 season. Upgraded with a powerful five-liter Judd V10 engine, the car's potential was immediately evident. It secured pole position four times that year, a testament to its remarkable speed and engineering.
One of its most notable achievements came at the Mont-Tremblant 6 Hours, where Didier Theys, Fredy Lienhard, and Fredy Lienhard Jr. piloted the SP1 to a stunning victory. This triumph highlighted the car's competitiveness and the drivers' skill, cementing its legacy in endurance racing history.
