"Shark" is the name by which one of the most iconic models produced by the car manufacturer French is often referred to, namely the DS (Désirée Spéciale). The double chevron sedan, which owes its nickname to the unmistakable design, officially debuted on October 6, 1955, and remained in production for the next twenty years, going through a long phase of evolutions and modifications, until the end of production in 1975.
Version 21 of the DS officially debuted at the Paris Motor Show in 1965.
It has a bigger engine than the DS 19, thanks to the greater displacement (2175 cc) that can produce 109 horsepower, which later became 115, and can reach a top speed of 175 kph, placing itself at the top of its category.
The latest version of the DS 21 included, among other things, a device capable of automatically adapting the incidence of the headlights according to the load of the car, as well as the wear indicator of the front brake pads and new increased tires, innovative solutions for the time.
The Citroen DS 21 is renowned above all for its oleo pneumatic suspension that allows it to maintain a constant ground clearance of the car while driving for comfort while driving of the highest level: technologies that required a study that lasted over a decade.
The DS21 was also offered in the Pallas version, more equipped and with high-profile equipment.
