Description

The fourth in Chrysler’s top-of-the-line “letter car” series, the 300D arrived in 1958 as an update of the successful 300C. Director of Styling Virgil Exner penned the body in the extreme, with Jet Age fins and a much longer, lower, wider, and modern appearance. Under the hood, the race-proven 392 Hemi V-8 produced an incredible 380 hp. The buying public was beguiled by the powerful and boldly styled 300D; priced above $5,000, exclusivity was assured. Just 809 300Ds were built, 191 of which were convertibles.

This outstanding 300D received a body-off restoration for a previous owner by the renowned specialists at Bob Lorkowski’s L’Cars Automotive Specialties of Bruce, Wisconsin in the mid-2010s. Ordered in Ermine White with air-conditioning, power windows, cruise control, and power-adjusted seats, and fitted with a Highway Hi-Fi record player, this 300D presents in concours-worthy condition throughout.

Having covered little distance since its restoration, this flamboyant convertible is estimated to be one of just 52 surviving examples and serves as a showcase for unrestrained mid-century American styling, engineering, and performance. 100% of the consignor’s proceeds will be donated to the William C. Kontes ’99 Memorial Scholarship, supporting the 65th anniversary of College Year in Athens, Greece's oldest study abroad program, a cause close to the consignor's heart.
