Description

Chassis No. VF9SV25282M795015

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse is the ultimate evolution of the world-shattering Veyron. It pairs the Veyron Super Sport's peerless, record-breaking performance with the thrill of roofless driving, and remains one of the most powerful and exclusive open-air automobiles ever built.

The Grand Sport Vitesse was born from the foundation of the Veyron Super Sport, itself a faster and more powerful evolution of the original Veyron 16.4. Unveiled in 2010, the Super Sport elevated performance with four larger turbochargers and intercoolers, boosting the proven W16's output to 1,200 PS and 1,500 Nm of torque. The Super Sport's drivetrain components were thoroughly reinforced, and its seven-speed direct-shift transmission was revised with new gearing ratios. Its engineering brilliance culminated in a Guinness World Record-certified average top speed of 431.072 km/h, making it the fastest production car in the world at the time-an achievement it held until 2017. The best of Bugatti was yet to come, however.

Unveiled in 2012 the Grand Sport Vitesse brought the Veyron's story to a close in spectacular fashion. The added targa top from the Grand Sport was enhanced by a newly developed roof spoiler that dramatically reduced cockpit wind noise. Positioned as the most luxurious expression of the Veyron lineage-its cabin adorned with exquisite quilted Italian leather-the Vitesse remained unwavering in its purpose: its very name the French word for "speed." Its quad-turbocharged W16 was identical in output to the Super Sport, and the Vitesse sprinted from zero to 100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds on the way to a limited top speed of 375 km/h. In April 2013, an unrestricted Grand Sport Vitesse recorded a 408.84 km/h top speed at Ehra-Lessien, taking the record for the fastest production roadster at the time. Anthony Liu, the racing driver who consummated the record, said: "even at such high speeds it remained incredibly comfortable and stable. With an open-top, you can really experience the sound of the engine and yet even at higher speeds I did not get compromised by the wind at all." Bugatti produced just 92 examples of the Grand Sport Vitesse between 2012 and 2015, each specimen highly unique and meticulously tailored to its owner's tastes.

The Grand Sport Vitesse broke cover at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, and it was in fact the very example offered here that was first shown at Europe's premier exotic automotive industry show. Chassis number 015 was one of two Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesses on display at Geneva during the reveal, alongside a two-tone blue example. Boasting such a striking specification, it is easy to see why this Grand Sport Vitesse was chosen to represent Bugatti's zero-compromise roadster as it was announced on the world stage. The exterior is clothed in an understated Jet Grey finish, complemented by subtle black and carbon fiber accents on its wheels, badges, and aerodynamic elements. Its cockpit is eye-catching even with the top fitted, consisting of two-tone black and Tangerine leather on its trim and seats. Tangerine accents further decorate the contrast stitching and Vitesse logos on the headrests and center console, along with tasteful carbon fiber and silver trim pieces. "Geneva Motorshow 2012" is inscribed on the door sills as well as on a metal plaque in the luggage compartment, further authenticating this example as a special display vehicle.

As one of just 92 examples produced, this Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse offers the exceedingly rare opportunity to acquire one of the coveted iterations of Bugatti's landmark hypercar, made all the more significant by chassis 015's role in introducing that iteration to the world at the exalted Geneva Motor Show. Following its reveal, the rare Veyron enjoyed private collector ownership in Europe and is accompanied by its Speed Key, owner's manuals in their pouch, and presentation box, with just 16,802 kilometers recorded at the time of cataloging.

Beyond its exceptional provenance, this Veyron's stunning specification and modest mileage make it a compelling addition to any distinguished collection of revolutionary hypercars. It is perfectly suited to commanding attention at the most illustrious automotive gatherings, or embarking on an unforgettable grand tour with the roof stowed and a convoy of fellow head-turning collector cars in tow.
