Description

Launched in 1986, the BMW M3 was the most powerful 3-Series BMW had ever built, and was developed by BMW’s Motorsport division for DTM and FIA Group A racing. While based on the E30 chassis, the M3 shared few parts with the standard model. On the outside, BMW added a larger rear spoiler, a deep front splitter, and muscular flared-wheel arches. The heart of the M3 was the S14 DOHC 2.3-liter, four-cylinder, 16-valve engine with individual throttle bodies, and Bosch Motronic fuel management. Mated to a Getrag five-speed gearbox, the high-revving motor developed 192 hp at 6,750 rpm in US-specification trim. Suspension tuning and braking systems were likewise updated and improved for the M3’s overtly more sporting mission.

This 1990 BMW M3 is finished in Sterling Silver over a black leather interior, and according to a CARFAX Vehicle History Report, remained in California between 1993 and 2012. Seemingly used regularly, it accrued the majority of its approximately 185,000 miles by 2005. This M3 has been maintained within Rudy Mancinas’ collection of predominantly BMW and Porsche automobiles since late 2017, and presents well. Appearing in largely original specification throughout, exceptions are an M-Technic steering wheel, performance exhaust, strut tower brace, and European-specification headlights. Accompanied by books, tools, jack, spare, and CARFAX Vehicle History Report, this sale is a chance to acquire an iconic M3 that has become increasingly collectible of late.
