Imagine the M3 in its earliest form and many would return thoughts of the E30-generation car in its most popular two-door saloon body style. However, BMW made a far rarer Cabriolet version. Indeed, of the 17,970-strong production run for the E30 M3, only 786 were open topped. Just 136 of those—including the car offered here—gained the internally coded “BB01” variation of the revered type S14 engine, rated by the Munich marque for 200 PS.
This example left BMW’s Regensburg factory on 27 June 1989 finished in Diamant Schwarz over a Black leather interior. The M3 gained options including air conditioning, a cassette holder, and a factory alarm. Delivered new to Spain, the car has been retained by the same Balearic Islands-based family since 1990. After being registered for the road on 19 April 1990, the M3 entered long-term family ownership just two months later. The BMW was serviced in May 2026 in anticipation of its return to Munich at auction. At the time of cataloguing, the odometer read 140,387 kilometres.
Whether this stylish M3 Cabriolet will return to drop-top motoring on Mediterranean shores or perhaps form part of an informed BMW collection, its rarity speaks volumes and makes this an appealing opportunity to many.
