The epitome of BMW craftsmanship, the 635 CSI, launched in 1978, breathed new life into the 6 Series, whose 630 and 633 models – released two years earlier – had left fans of the Bavarian manufacturer’s coupés wanting more. Hidden beneath its long bonnet is a 3.5-litre straight-six engine. This marvellous power unit, developed by the brand’s engineers, delivers 218 ch at 5,200 rpm, propelling the coupé from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and enabling it to reach a top speed of 228 km/h.
Combining the muscular yet elegant design conceived by the French designer Paul Bracq with performance and handling worthy of the finest GTs of the era, the 635 CSI further reinforces – if that were necessary – the brand’s DNA and will rightly benefit from its Motorsport version.
The 635 CSi featured in these pages has the considerable advantage of combining the following elements: Opalgrün Metallic paintwork, TRX wheels (currently fitted with Alpina-style wheels; the original TRX wheels are, of course, included with the car). As a second-phase model, its engine has been increased to 3.4 litres, delivering a maximum power output of 211 ch.
This particular car joined the current owner’s collection in 2020, having spent the previous 24 years with the same owner. It was then given a skilful restoration to restore it to its former glory, including a complete repaint. Since then, it has been regularly used and maintained by its owner, a true connoisseur of these cars. The documentation includes, amongst other things, the previous registration certificate and its service history book.
