Description

Estimated Price: £25,000 - £30,000

  • Introduced in October 1963, the Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII (BJ8) was the final development of the celebrated 'Big Healey', powered by a 150bhp 2.9-litre straight-six engine coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, and featuring servo-assisted brakes, wind-up windows and a walnut-veneered dashboard
  • First registered on 19/04/1967, this UK-supplied, right-hand drive example was ordered new for a reported £1,250, with a copy of its original order letter dated 28/02/1967 included in the detailed history file. Retained by its first owner for almost 59 years until our Race Retro auction in February 2026, it was acquired by our vendor, who has not registered the car in his name. Consequently, the V5C records no former registered keepers
  • Initially used as everyday transport until 1973, the Healey received a replacement BMC C-Series engine in the early 1970s at approximately 40,000 miles. Bodywork restoration during the 1980s included replacement wings, sills and associated panels, a new hood and windscreen, and a colour change from Austin-Healey Blue to its current Ford Blue. The paintwork has recently been machine polished, although some age-related blemishes remain
  • The odometer Indicated 3,806 miles at the time of cataloguing, understood to be 103,806 miles in total, with just 21 miles reportedly covered since its purchase at Race Retro earlier this year. Our vendor advises that the car 'starts readily and drives well' and has recently replaced the sump gasket, engine oil and oil filter to address the previously reported oil leak. The overdrive operates on third and fourth gears. Noted items include a sticking fuel gauge, inoperative glovebox latch and disconnected radio aerial.
  • Supplied with a tonneau cover, the interior and hood are reported to remain in good condition, although replacement carpets would be beneficial
  • Accompanied by its detailed history file including it's most recent MOT (no advisories) which expired on 10/03/2026
  • We encourage your inspection at our NEC Classic Motor Show Sale
