Description
In 2010, Dr Ulrich Bez marked ten years as CEO of Aston Martin. Under him the company had moved to Gaydon, launched the VH platform, and finally become profitable. To celebrate, Aston Martin unveiled the DBS UB-2010 at that year’s Geneva Motor Show. It was a car Dr Bez specified himself, limited to just 20 coupes and 20 Volantes.
The starting point was Marek Reichman’s DBS, the most muscular Aston of its time. It has a bonded aluminium chassis, carbon fibre panels, and the hand-built 5,935 cc V12 producing 510 hp and 420 lb-ft. Dr Bez chose one finish for every car: Azurite Black paint, a deep blue-black that turns navy in the sun, with metallic bronze leather, woven leather seat inserts, bitter chocolate carpets and Cryptic Titan trim across the dashboard and doors. He signed off each car personally before it left the factory, and his signature appears on the UB-2010 sill plaques and on the final inspection plate under the bonnet.
This is coupe No. 07 of 20, and it has covered just 81 km since new. Both signed plaques are still in place, which is not true of every surviving example. The bronze leather and Cryptic Titan trim look just as Gaydon finished them. It is as close to new as a UB-2010 can be today.
The UB-2010 isn’t about more power. It reflects one man’s personal taste at the end of the naturally aspirated V12 era. With only twenty coupes made, very few come up for sale, and finding one that has never really been driven is rarer still.
