Announced at the London Motor Show in October 1965, the Aston Martin DB6, with its distinctive rear spoiler, represented the ultimate version of a superlative Grand Touring line that had begun with the DB4 of 1958. The biggest single factor in the success of the series was the decision by general manager John Wyer that the car be styled by Carrozzeria Touring in Italy instead of the works. The result was the close-coupled DB4 coupé (a ‘saloon’ in factory parlance), the superb lines of which were perpetuated on the DB5 and DB6.
