The Alpine A110 1600 SX... The last owner had the car in his possession for 20 years.... It was the last evolution of the legendary original A110 and represents the end of one of the most remarkable stories in French motorsport. Produced between 1976 and 1977, at a time when Alpine was already preparing to replace the A110 with the A310, the 1600 SX was conceived as a more civilized and comfortable version of the famous Berlinette. Unlike the A110s that became famous in rallies for their aggressiveness and high performance, the SX sought to offer easier and more enjoyable road use, without losing the lightness and character that made the model's reputation. The car maintained the classic architecture of the A110, with a central steel backbone chassis and an extremely lightweight fiberglass body. The engine was mounted behind the rear axle, a configuration that contributed to excellent traction but also to a very particular handling when driven near the limit. Weighing only around 790 kg, the A110 1600 SX offered driving sensations that many more powerful sports cars could not match. The engine used was a 1,647 cc four-cylinder that developed approximately 120 hp. More powerful models used more aggressive camshafts, higher compression ratios, and more performance-oriented fuel systems. In the SX, Alpine opted for a smoother tuning, prioritizing reliability, comfort, and ease of daily use. Even so, thanks to its reduced weight, the car was capable of reaching around 195 km/h and had a very competitive power-to-weight ratio for the time. On the road, the A110 1600 SX stands out for its enormous agility. The steering is light and communicative, the car changes direction with impressive ease and conveys a feeling of direct connection to the asphalt. On winding roads, it can keep up with much more powerful cars thanks to its lightness and balance. However, the very rear-heavy weight distribution demands respect from the driver, especially on wet surfaces or during more aggressive driving, as the rear can react quickly when the accelerator is lifted in corners. Although the 1600 SX doesn't have the mythical status of the famous Group 4 cars that dominated rallies and contributed to Alpine's world title in 1973, it is today a highly prized model among collectors. Its production is extremely limited with only 385 units and represents the last chapter of the classic A110 generation before the end of production in Dieppe. For many enthusiasts, the SX is a way to enjoy the charm and driving experience of an A110 GR4, but with a more balanced and less extreme character. It comes with the wheels it came with from the factory.
