One of the most loved decennia with Alfa Romeo are the 70’s. Giulia’s, Berlina’s, Bertone's and of course the Spider; everyone one of them very valued classic in their own right. Whilst the first three were succeeded by new types, the Spider remained in production until mid 1993. The type 4 has the semblance of a true classic in its final form.

This Spider type 4 is one of the last models sold, 1994 being the last year they were actually supplied to the clientele. It has a very crisp looking silver-grey, or as the Italians prefer to say ‘Grigio Chiaro” finish. It provides the car with even more of a timeless look, especially as the paint condition has a lovely deep lustre. Where some of its siblings can feel quite tired, this Spider is as fresh as a daisy. The alignment is trim and subtle brightwork in great condition.

The inside is particularly neat having a mere 101,241 km on the clock. Clearly a car that has been cherished. The seats are very neat and are comfortably supportive. Matters such as the instrument panel, steering wheel and gear knob have been well cared for. As we lack the wonderful Italian warm climate and well-fitting hood is no superfluous item. The good new is that this one is pristine with a fully transparent rear window.

Mechanically this car is completely sound. It drives a treat. The 2-litre Nord engine is responsive and transfers its power though the nicely shifting gearbox. Steering can be a bit vague in some type 4 ‘s, our Silver-Grey Spider however, we are happy to say, has nice and tight steering. Great fun to take on long trips from the Ardennes to Italy over bending roads.

An ideal combination of the classic with all mod cons typifies the Alfa Romeo Spider Type 4.
