“In superb working order, attractively priced”
In 1963, Alfa Romeo replaced the outdated Giulietta Sprint coupé with a coupé based on its new Giulia 1600. This car would soon take the name of its designer and become the Bertone Coupé. In 1969, another designer, Zagato, embarked on his own coupé venture, based on the Spider platform—shortened by a few centimetres—initially in the 1300 version.
Only 1,108 Junior Zagatos with the 1300 engine were produced. Within this already limited production run, it is worth noting that the first 200 were fitted with aluminium doors, which is the case with the car featured on these pages.
Our Junior Zagato was originally delivered new to the Aosta region in Italy and has a clear ownership history from the outset, spanning Italy, France, Belgium and England. In 2012, whilst owned by the Vice-President of the Alfa Classic Club, it underwent a full restoration, which was featured in Auto Retro magazine a year later.
It joined the current owner’s collection just over a year ago. The owner has carried out some minor work on it to maintain its superb running condition. The bodywork, whilst not show-piece standard, is in fine condition.
Behind the wheel, this little 1300 Junior is a real pleasure – playful and devilishly efficient… Now on offer at a very reasonable estimate, this is one not to be missed!
