The Alfa Romeo Giulia 101 Spider Veloce

Alfa Romeo introduced the Giulia Spider in June 1962, being a development of the Giulietta Spider but now with a 1,570cc engine and 5-speed gearbox. The Spider bodies were designed and built by Pininfarina in Turin and the cars assembled by Alfa Romeo in Milan. The Veloce version used twin Weber carburettors and hotter camshafts than the Normale to produce around 129bhp.

This Alfa Romeo Giulia 101 Spider Veloce

This car, chassis number AR390445 (Type 101.18 Veloce), was manufactured on 20th April 1965 and sold to Alfa Romeo Germany, Frankfurt. In 1996, AR390445 was converted into a race car by Dr R Schimmer of Dusseldorf, since when it has competed in races throughout Europe including Spa, Zolder, Zandvoort, Brno, Hockenheim, and the Nordschleife where it took 9th overall out of 185 entrants in the Eifelklassik. The car was also taken to a win at Monza in the 2010 Coppa Intereuropa, starting from the very back of the grid.

Prepared to FIA Appendix K (Period F 1962-65) Class GTS10 spec, the FIA HTP papers expired in 2017 and could be renewed if the new buyer wishes to race the car.

The large history file includes invoices indicating significant expenditure. Eligible for many race series, UK registered and supplied with a UK V5c. The date expired fuel cell, race seat and belts were removed and replaced with a hard to source standard fuel tank, a generic pair of reclining seats and driver and passenger belts. Ready to be enjoyed by someone with the skill to exploit the car's undoubted continuing potential as a race or rally car.
