Description

Having previously built large, expensive cars, Alfa Romeo found their bearings for mass production postwar in spectacular fashion by introducing the Giulietta in 1954. It was smaller than its forebear but gave up nothing to earlier Alfa Romeos in terms of technical sophistication or aesthetic character. Compared to the 6C, the Giulietta cost considerably less to buy and maintain, making it exactly the car for Italy’s style-conscious, emerging middle class.

The Giulietta had strong appeal for car enthusiasts on both sides of the Atlantic, and its attractiveness was further enhanced by its most significant upgrades to date in 1962, together with a name change to Giulia. Displacement grew from 1,290 cc to 1,570 cc, and a five-speed gearbox was also added. Available in five major body styles, Giuliettas and Giulias offer a broad range of driving experiences, with the beautiful Pininfarina open cars perfectly embodying the quintessential sports car.

This Giulia Spider is a relatively early 1,570 cc example and is equipped with the attractive Giulietta-type instruments and a wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel. The car displays beautifully, both above and below, having been thoughtfully restored and thoroughly detailed. According to service records on file, during 2017–2019 it received mechanical sorting to the clutch, gearbox, electrical and ignition systems, brakes, and a rebuilt carburetor. As presented, this fine Alfa Romeo stands ready to please its next owner with adventures far and wide.
