Description

Few automobiles capture the elegance of post-war Italian motoring quite like the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500. Representing the final evolution of Alfa Romeo’s celebrated 6C lineage, the Super Sport combined one of the marque’s finest six-cylinder engines with the artistry of Italy’s greatest coachbuilders.

This exceptional 6C 2500 Super Sport Cabriolet, chassis 915841, was completed in 1949 and clothed by Pinin Farina, whose restrained and beautifully balanced design gives the car an unmistakable presence.

Delivered new to Switzerland, it embodies the sophisticated grand touring character for which these coachbuilt Alfa Romeos have become so highly regarded.

Beneath its sweeping bodywork lies Alfa Romeo’s renowned 2.4-litre inline six-cylinder engine, breathing through three Weber carburettors and paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Importantly, the car retains its original matching engine, an increasingly significant attribute among automobiles of this calibre.

Finished in a deep, elegant dark blue, the exterior is beautifully contrasted by a rich red interior, creating a combination perfectly suited to the understated glamour of a late-1940s Italian cabriolet. Its Pinin Farina coachwork has been extensively restored, with particular attention paid to the body, brightwork, trim and mechanical components, while portions of the interior retain an appealing degree of original character and patina.

The restoration extended well beyond the cosmetic presentation of the car. The chassis, suspension, braking system, electrical installation and major mechanical components were carefully restored or rebuilt, resulting in a car that presents today with the level of attention expected of an important coachbuilt Alfa Romeo.

Accompanied by an Alfa Romeo Classiche Certificato di Origine and a photographic restoration file, chassis 915841 represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most elegant interpretations of the 6C 2500 Super Sport: combining Alfa Romeo engineering, Pinin Farina design and genuine period provenance in a remarkably sophisticated open grand tourer.

A significant Alfa Romeo from one of the most celebrated periods of Italian coachbuilding, equally at home in a distinguished collection, on the concours lawn or on the open road.
