The rest, as they say, is history

This particular car was built in or around 1998 by Superformance of Irvine, California under direct licence from Carroll Shelby as a continuation of his famed AC Cobras of the 1960s. The specification is extremely high and should not be confused with the plethora of similar looking replicas.

For example, the chassis is a heavy duty, tig-welded steel ladder-frame in 2"x4" rectangular section with both built-in crumple zones and a stainless steel roll-over bar. The correct Ford 'Windsor' 351 cubic inch engine (giving over 400BHP) is mated to a Tremec 5-speed manual gearbox and all this power is distributed to the rear wheels through a BTR Dana limited slip differential.

The car has the original 'shifter' gearchange, original handbrake, original Halibrand wheels/tyres and original Smiths instruments. The suspension is fully independent front and rear utilising the very best Ohlin dampers, the car sits on Wilwood vented discs, all brake lines are braided, and even the 17-gallon fuel tank is stainless steel with a 'Monza' filler cap.

Looking very original in the period colour combination of Guardsman Blue with twin Wimbledon White stripes, this left-hand drive car was acquired by our private vendor from Clive Sutton Cars of London in 2009. He then appointed the current Superformance importer, Le Mans Coupes Ltd., to collect the car and recommission it at a cost of some £6,277. He collected the Cobra from them with 9,850 miles recorded and today the car has covered just 12,500, most of those in the dry sunny climate of Mallorca where he has a holiday home.

The V5C states the original date of registration of the car as 1965 and the rare and valuable registration number 'ASP 1C' comes with the car as does a comprehensive history file and the original leather presentation leather wallet containing the original owners manual. This is a very special AC Cobra, with a known history and provenance, that both drives absolutely superbly and is offered at an extremely realistic guide price to sell today.
