This AC Cobra 289 (Chassis #COB6003) is the first RHD Cobra ever produced and one of just 51 Mark I Cobra 289’s sold. It was sold by Performance Motors in St Helier to Ford Advanced Vehicles on the 9th September 1963. Ford Advanced Vehicles are best known for spearheading the development of the original Ford GT40 in 1963/64, it is therefore easy to speculate the exact use for this Cobra, as a benchmark? Or perhaps even a development car for GT40 parts? The car was fitted in period with a magnesium competition rear differential and Borg Warner T10 gearbox, both of which it retains to this day.

The vehicle left the factory in Old English White with a black interior. It remained in the hands of Ford Advanced Vehicles for 5 years, before being sold to Eric James of Gerrards Cross in 1968 and then to former sportscar racer and owner of STS Cars, Cliff Davis, in 1970.

In the early 1980’s the car changed hands to a private British collector where it remained for almost 40 years, during which time it was part-restored and used sparingly.

The car moved hands in March 2022 where the remainder of the restoration was completed. Work carried out since then includes a professional re-spray in period correct Ford Wimbledon White, an engine refresh and the re-trimming of the interior, Chassis #COB6003 presents in excellent condition throughout, both cosmetically and mechanically.

The car comes complete with an additional 385bhp competition-spec 289 cubic inch engine, fitted with period correct Weber’s and competition gearbox, FIA papers and more importantly F.I.V.A. passport, making it ideal for the Tour Auto.
