Description
Imported from California, USA in 1997 and re registered in the UK this matching number R90S was comprehensively restored in 1999, including a top end engine rebuild. A detailed photo record of this work is included in the history file along with correspondence from the restoration specialist and many bills for new parts. In addition it has recently had a service and comes with an MoT until Aug. 2027.
Introduced in 1973 the R90S was the flagship model until superseded in 1976 by the R100. During that time some 17,500 units were built with 67 bhp it had a top speed of 124 mph and could run a quarter mile in around 13.5 seconds and accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4.8. These figures helped to dispel the image that BMW bikes were utilitarian and dull to ride, ironically BMW had almost accidentally created one of the most popular and iconic Sports Tourer’s of the 1970’s .
Remaining in good running condition and in generally good cosmetic order this example has a great history and is ready to go, it is also supplied with an original owners handbook and a set of factory panniers but not the fitting brackets.
