The garage companion that remembers everything you don’t

After initially catching up with TJ Grewal and revolutionary private, free app for managing your car collection, known as CARPORT, we wanted to dive a little deeper into how it can benefit owners. TJ’s stunning Nissan Skyline was the perfect candidate to test it on.

Ask a collector what’s in their garage and you’ll get a story, then ask when the timing belt was last changed, or where the invoice for that carburettor rebuild went, and the story might get a little vaguer. Our relationship with cars can be one of elation and head-scratching in equal measures, where the joy of a Sunday morning drive to the local coffee spot can quickly turn into a headache if the maintenance isn’t up to scratch. Thankfully, like almost everything nowadays, there’s an app for that, and this one is a true lifesaver for those looking to spend more time enjoying their classic rather than sifting through paperwork. We caught up with CARPORT’s creator, TJ Grewal who introduced us to the app and his car collection, and now we wanted to follow up with a closer look at what the app offers.

Let’s start with what it isn’t, this is not a social platform. It’s a management tool for you, not a popularity app for others or a way of showing off your collection. Instead, it’s a way of monitoring your cars service records and investment into the car, regardless of its age. Only you see what’s in your account, there are no links to followers, and sharing access is controlled entirely by you. All you need is the year, make and model, and you can build from there.

The design deserves a mention too, as the app presents all information in a clean, simple and organised way, which is handy when a friend asks what’s in your garage and you’d rather not scroll through your camera roll. Beneath that sits a deliberately broad set of tools, because owners have different priorities. At its core, though, CARPORT is about maintenance and understanding your total investment against the market.

Uploaded receipts can be found in a searchable library, tallied across currencies and linked to the items you track, from tyres and fluids to timing belts and carb adjustments. To make it even easier to quickly check, customisable service rings show maintenance status and send reminders when they’re actually timely.

Photos, documents, certificates and notes about past events come together to establish the history of your car. Add items in any order you find them, CARPORT organizes them in a chronological timeline to put the history of your car in clear view. And all of it can be downloaded in a simple report should you choose to.

But looking inward isn’t the only thing CARPORT does. For those who subscribe to Plus, CARPORT will help you understand the current market for your car and condition class, so you can set your own informed point of view of the value of your car. This is great for things like discussing your insurance coverage with your insurance agent, or to understand your net financial position in the car.

Launched back in December 2022, CARPORT has grown and steadily since, now used in more than 110 countries, by owners with anything from one car to over 160. The oldest is from 1904, the newest from 2026. If you’re looking for the ultimate companion which works as a personal assistant from just one tap of the app on your smartphone, this is it, allowing you to hit the open road with complete peace of mind.
