Rolf Sachs get to grips with a limited-edition Leica

Multifaceted artist and designer Rolf Sachs has collaborated with Leica to create a new limited-edition M-system camera, with which 79 fortunate collectors can get to grips thanks to the unique application of ping-pong bat rubber…

Haptic harmony

When devising his own take on Leica’s legendary M-P camera, German designer Sachs looked to materials traditionally applied in other manufacturing industries that have strong ‘gripping’ properties – particularly handy considering the limited-edition specials cost €14,750 apiece. The chosen material was a striking red ‘ping-pong’ rubber usually used on table-tennis bats which, according to Sachs, not only creates a striking aesthetic, but also adds a practical tactility while offering a new haptic experience. Available at selected Leica stores from November 2016, the Leica M-P ‘grip’ by Rolf Sachs will come in a black case that also contains the lens, a Leica SF 40 flash and a shoulder strap, as well as some unusual accessories such as a wooden toothbrush to clean the specialist rubber and a natural goat brush to clean the lens.
